Eight (8) elementary and one-hundred thirty-five (135) secondary graduates under the Alternative Learning System (ALS) from Quezon Province’s 1st District ALS centers marched for their graduation rite, September 23 at the Pagbilao Municipal Covered Court. The commencement exercise was funded by the local government unit of Pagbilao headed by Municipal Mayor Shierre Ann Portes-Palicpic.
Themed “ALS Gradweyt… Isang Karangalan at Simbolo ng Bagong Pag-asa sa Magandang Kinabukasan”, the graduation ceremony produced eight (8) elementary and one-hundred thirty-five (135) secondary graduates from the ALS centers of Pagbilao, Lucban, Sampaloc, Mauban South and Mauban North.
Pagbilao Mayor Shierre Ann Portes-Palicpic graced the event, alongside Public Schools District Supervisor Aurea Gandia, ALS educators and other local officials. Jonathan Dave Tena, professor at STI College, served as inspirational speaker.
Outstanding and exceptional graduates, as well as Accreditation and Equivalency (A&E) passers, were also acknowledged during the momentous event. Rehina Jane Merle was recognized as first honor in the secondary level, while Nerissa Vizarra in the elementary level. Vangeline Catubig, oldest passer at the age of fifty (50), also received an acknowledgement.
The graduation rite, hosted and funded by the LGU Pagbilao, produced eight (8) elementary graduates: five (5) from Pagbilao District, one (1) from Lucban District, and two (2) from Mauban South District; and one-hundred thirty-five (135) secondary graduates: thirty-six (36) from Pagbilao, thirty-nine (39) from Lucban, nine (9) from Sampaloc, thirty-five (35) from Mauban South, and sixteen (16) from Mauban North.
In addition, the ALS program in Pagbilao is being funded by the municipal government under the supervision of Mayor Palicpic. The LGU also provides funds for the salary of ALS teachers from the municipality’s several ALS centers. The Department of Education (DepEd) caught sight of this notable and truly beneficial initiative, and bestowed the LGU with the DepEd Gawad Kaagapay Award in 2015.
