49 TESDA scholars of the local government unit attended the meeting with Municipal Mayor Shierre Ann Portes-Palicpic on June 9 at the Sangguniang Bayan Session Hall.
The meet-up revolved around the scholarship grant being offered by the local government to high school graduates who wish to finish a TESDA course and pass the National Certificate (NC) examination. As explained by Mayor Palicpic, the LGU was on the look for 22 scholars who will undergo the Electrical Installation and Maintenance course and 35 scholars for Shielded Metal Arch Welding (SMAW) course. Only 15 applied for the first program, while 34 applied for the second one, resulting to 49 scholars from the two programs.
The scholarship program includes free tuition fee and free training kit. The LGU will also take responsibility of the first examination expenses of the scholars. In the event that a scholar failed to pass the NC I or NC II exam, the LGU will not shoulder the examination fee for his/her second taking.
The program aims to get the municipality’s people ready for future manpower concerns since the power plant that operates in the municipality has been needing more workers. Meanwhile, the scholars are set to start with their 88-day training on June 13 at the Quezon National Agricultural School (QNAS) in Sil. Malicboy.
