Centenarian Teodora Lusterio receives P50k from LGU

100th birthday celebrant Teodora “Dory” Lusterio of Brgy. Tambak gladly received fifty thousand pesos (Php50,000) from the Local Government Unit of Pagbilao through Mayor Shierre Ann Portes-Palicpic, May 31, 2017.

Aside from the cash gift handed over in a form of bank check, Lusterio also received a cake from Mayor Palicpic. The cash awarding was part of the implementation of Municipal Ordinance (M.O.) No. 2, Series of 2016 also known as “An Ordinance Granting the Centenary Award and Plaque of Appreciation to Qualified Senior Citizen in the Municipality of Pagbilao”.

Section 5 of M.O. No. 2, S’2016 states that “the Centenary Award consists of Fifty Thousand Pesos (Php50,000.00), in Philippine Currency, shall be given on the centennial birth anniversary of the recipient, while the awarding of Plaque of Appreciation shall be done during the month of October.” The program is funded by the municipal government.

Going back to October 27, 2016, four (4) centenarians were granted Php50,000 by the LGU during the municipal celebration of Elderly Filipino Month.

In addition to the cash grant it gives, the LGU also encourages centenarian to apply for the grant being given by the national government in the amount of Php100,000 under the Republic Act 10868 or “Centenarians Act of 2016″. In order for a Pagbilao centenarian to be granted the said amount, he or she should meet the qualifications and requirements specified on the Section 3 of M.O. No. 2, S’2016. Qualifications and requirements are as follows: (a) Must be a bonafide resident of this municipality for a continuous period of five (5) years, prior to the centennial birth anniversary, (b) Must not have been a prior recipient of the centenary award, and (c) Must submit the following documents: (1) Certificate of Live Birth from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), in default, a certified Certificate of Baptism, (2) Certification from the Punong Barangay alleging inter-alia that the recipient is actually domiciled in the barangay, and (3) A brief and concise narrative statement of the life of the recipient, prior to centennial birth anniversary.
