The ground breaking ceremony for the Pagbilao By-Pass Road happened May 12, 2017 in Brgy. Talipan. The 330.57 million-worth project under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is initiated by Quezon 4th District Congresswoman Helen Tan. Pagbilao Mayor Shierre Ann Portes-Palicpic and other key partners witnessed the momentous event.
The Pagbilao By-Pass Road, which will soon rise in the municipality, has a projected length of 5.57 kilometers and roadway width of 6.7 meters. Since the by-pass road will be situated within Maharlika Highway, the sole roadway from the northern parts of the country towards the southern parts such as Bicol, Visayas and Mindanao, the finished by-pass road is expected to reduce traffic by about 40%, particularly in the poblacion area of the municipality.
The project, worth P330,576,050, will span across the barangays of Talipan, Bukal, Mayhay and Ikirin. It will be traversed by the Tayabas-Pagbilao Road, Ikirin-Bagumbungan Road and Tambak River, and for this reason, a 37.31 meter bridge will also be erected. The construction will be done within three years, to start in 2017 and to end in 2019.
The Pagbilao By-Pass Road, a project initiated by Cong. Tan, is essential as (1) it will provide a new access road in Pagbilao and will function as a support infrastructure to compliment development growth, (2) it will be significant to economic and tourism activities, (3) it will contribute in the reduction of travel time and transportation cost for the masses, (4) it will help in the increased agricultural production due to improved transportation services, and (5) it will provide accessibility that can stimulate tourism investments by private sectors.
The ground breaking ceremony was witnessed by Pagbilao Mayor Palicpic, 4th District of Quezon Congresswoman Tan, 1st District Congresswoman Trina Enverga, Former 1st District Congressman Mark Enverga, Municipal Administrator Ian Palicpic, Vice Mayor Joseph Garcia and Sangguniang Bayan members, representatives of Team Energy, department heads of LGU Pagbilao, barangay captains mediamen and guests.
In her message, Mayor Palicpic thanked all the individuals, organizations and stakeholders who made the project possible, emphasizing the convenience and development it will deliver.
“Tunay nga po na ito (construction of Pagbilao by-pass road) ang hudyat ng patuloy na pag-unlad ng aming Bayan. This is just a beginning of a new road to success,” said Mayor Palicpic. In addition, the honorable mayor left words of encouragement to her fellow public servants and Pagbilaoins as a whole. “Let’s work together towards a common goal of making Pagbilao a more progressive one.”
