In connection with its regular program on responsible pet ownership, the local government unit of Pagbilao held a Veterinary Consultation and Medical Mission through the Municipal Agriculture Office and in cooperation with the Quezon Provincial Veterinary Office, September 28, 2017. One of the services given is the free anti-rabies vaccination for pet dogs and cats.
In her message, Mayor Shierre Ann Portes-Palicpic said that the LGU is set to implement another program under the responsible pet ownership program. In this new program, the LGU will capture stray animals, particularly dogs, and will be kept in a pet impounding facility to be constructed in Brgy. Iba. Bagumbungan. Owners will be given up to three days to get their pets back.
In case owners failed to redeem their pets, Mayor Palicpic said, “Kung hindi po matutubos ang inyong alaga, mayroon na po kaming karapatan (sa pamahalaang bayan) na ipaampon ang inyong alaga sa mga nanay-nanayan at tatay-tatayan na makapagbibigay ng higit na pag-aalaga at pagmamahal.”
Under the same new program, irresponsible pet owners who will let their pets wandering around will be compelled to pay penalty fee. In addition, every pet animal in the municipality will be attached a “pet tag” to identify their owners.
Meanwhile, the LGU and the Municipal Health Office (MHO) help those who were bitten by dogs and cats through the free anti-rabies injection. It is being highly recommended to finish the number of injections required by the experts at the MHO.
Despite the fact that the LGU provides assistance to individuals bitten by rabies-carrying animals, Mayor Palicpic reminded the public that it is the obligation of pet owners to ensure that their pets will not harm anyone.
