In connection with the 14th National Dental Health Month (NDHM) the local government unit of Pagbilao, headed by Mayor Shierre Ann Portes-Palicpic, through the Municipal Health Office (MHO) celebrated it throughout the month of February. In relation to the event, the MHO held Slogan Contest and On-the-Spot Poster-Making Contest at the conference room of the Municipal Administrator’s Office last February 20, 2018.
The slogan writing contest and on-the-spot poster-making contest are both participated by Grade 7 to senior high school students from Public and Private schools.
In the slogan contest, out of the 11 participants Audrey Mavino from Pagbilao Academy was hailed grand winner and received a trophy and ₱3,000.00 as prizes. Justine Kyle Anaim of Pagbilao Grande Island National High School seized the first runner-up spot, while Errika Portes of Silangang Malicboy National High School managed to grab the second runner-up spot. Each received a trophy and a cash prize of ₱ 2,000.00 and ₱ 1,000.00 respectively.
On the other hand, 12 students participated in the on-the-spot poster-making contest Brix Dondi Borbon of Talipan National High School notched the first place, garnering him a trophy and ₱3,000.00 worth of cash prize. Romel Garcia of Silangang Malicboy National High School won the second place, while Zailan Meg Aquiao of Pagbilao Grande Island National High School bagged the third place. Both received a trophy and a cash prize of ₱ 2,000.00 and ₱ 1,000.00 respectively.
The theme of this year’s celebration is “Ngiping Inaruga mula Pagkabata, malusog na ngiti baon sa Pagtanda.” Dr. Mariam V. Merluza, municipal dentist and as well as the municipal nutrition action officer led the activities in relation to the annual month-long celebration and aims to address dental and health issues respectively.
In line with the month-long celebration, different activities are prepared by the office of Dr. Merluza such as the search for Mr. and Ms. Orally Fit Child 2018 on February 27, 2018 which will be participated by 13 girls and 10 boys from different daycare centers and Drawing Contest on February 28, 2018 to be participated by 15 daycare students.
The objective of these events is to create social awareness and consciousness on the importance of Oral Healthcare among the youth.
The 14th NDHM also aims to encourage the populace to give importance to their oral health by visiting their dentists every 6 months for dental check-up, oral prophylaxis (cleaning), fillings and other procedures and for the LGU’s to take the lead in Preventive Dentistry Programs for public schools and in the barangays.
The winning entries in the slogan writing contest are as follows:
Grand Winner: “Magandang Ngiting pangmatagalan, Kapag ang ngipi’y iningatan at inalagaan”
1st runner-up: “Ngiping magaganda’t matitibay, Makakasama habambuhay Kailangang pangalagaan ng buong husay”
2nd runner-up: “Inalagaang ngiping habang musmos pa, Ngiti ng tagumpay habambuhay kasama”
