Aspirants for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) posts in the Municipal Government of Pagbilao has a total of 472 candidates running for barangay elections while 185 hopefuls for the SK polls in 27 barangays situated therein.
This is the first barangay and SK elections in 5 years since it has been postponed twice due to President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs. It can be recalled that Duterte expressed fears that incumbent barangay officials who allegedly have links with drug syndicates might get re-elected and without the consolidated congressional measure to delay it, the election period for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) polls has pushed through this year.
Of the total barangay candidates, 70 are running for barangay chairman while 402 are seeking for kagawad seats. Meanwhile for the SK elections, 53 are running for chief position while 132 are aspiring to become kagawad.
The filing of COCs started last April 14 up to April 20 and was extended until Saturday, April 21, 2018.

Based on the records from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) that some one million Filipinos have filed their COCs for around 600,000 positions that are at stake.
The big turnout of aspirants for the barangay and SK polls will give the voters a wide range of options on whom to vote for in the elections.
On May 14, registered voters will be voting for one punong barangay and seven sangguniang barangay members, while youth voters will elect one SK chairperson and seven SK members. Those aged 18 to 30 years old will vote both in the barangay and SK elections.
