The Municipality of Pagbilao headed by Mayor Shierre Ann Portes-Palicpic joined the provincial celebration of 2017 Women’s Month and received a major award and two special awards in Gender and Development (GAD), March 31, 2017 at the Quezon Convention Center.
Along with thousands of fellow Kapisanan ng Liping Pilipina (KALIPI) members from different parts of Quezon Province, around 870 KALIPI members from Pagbilao actively participated in the provincial celebration of Women’s Month 2017 themed “WE Make Change Work for Women” (with “WE” standing for Women Empowerment).
The celebration kicked off with a Holy Mass led by Diocese of Lucena Bishop Emilio Z. Marquez. This was followed by the singing of Philippine National Anthem and Lalawigan ng Quezon hymn, production number of Gng. KALIPI 2017 candidates, message by Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Sonia Leyson, introduction of guest speaker by Governor David C. Suarez, and message of the guest speaker in the person of Lady Senator Cynthia A. Villar.
Ensuing after was the presentation of Provincial GAD awardees, where Pagbilao was hailed First Runner-up Outstanding Municipal GAD Focal Point System for 2016 among the Province’s 1st class LGUs. Pagbilao also received two special awards: Best GAD Implementer in Disaster Preparedness for 2016 and Best GAD Implementer in Health Services for 2016. The awards were given by the Provincial GAD Council headed by Ofelia M. Palayan. Aside from plaques of recognition, the Pagbilao LGU was also given P25,000 cash prize. Mayor Palicpic received the award, alongside Pagbilao Municipal SWDO’s Emerita Madla and Jane Luce.
In the afternoon, ALONA Party List Representative Anna Villaraza-Suarez and Gov. Suarez gave their messages. Veteran singer and Asia’s Diva Dulce serenaded the “sea of women” dressed in bright pink who are the KALIPI members. Meanwhile, candidates of Gng. KALIPI 2017, with Birdie Casiño being Pagbilao’s rep, vied for the title.
