Pagbilao Mayor Shierre Ann Portes-Palicpic, officially launced ‘#PagbilaWIN Una Ka (P1K) Program

Through the collaborative efforts of the National Nutrition Council’s (NNC) First 1000 Days of life program (F1K), Quezon Province very own Q1K or Quezon’s First 1,000 Days of Life program and the local government unit of Pagbilao, the launching of #PagbilaWIN Una Ka (P1K) Program was made possible at the Pagbilao Municipal Covered Court, March 16, 2018.

 P1K aims to inform and educate every citizen of the province as well as the municipality on the importance of the child’s first 1000 days and help in improving their nutrition during this span of time to hopefully prevent or decrease child morbidity and mortality as malnutrition’s irreversible effects.

The first 1000 days of life starts from conception up to the second birthday of the child. This is considered as a critical window of time that sets the stage for a person’s intellectual development and lifelong health. It is a period of enormous potential, as well as enormous vulnerability.

Present in the launching of #PagbilaWIN Una Ka (P1K) program were ALONA Partylist Representative Ana Villaraza-Suarez, 1st District Board Member Jerry Talaga, Mayor Shierre Ann Portes-Palicpic, Pagbilao Municipal Administrator Ian Palicpic, Councilors Celedonio Dapla, Jeffrey Tiñana and Lolito Merle, PhilHealth-Quezon representative Jonathan Alim, Municipal Nutrition Action Officer (MNAO) Dr. Mariam V. Merluza, Assistant Municipal Health Officer, Dr. Francis Gerard Daya,  selected department heads, Kapisananan ng Liping Pilipina (KALIPI) members, beneficiaries of P1K, Rural Improvement Club (RIC) members, Barangay Kagawad in-charge of Committee on Health, Barangay Nutrition Scholars, Barangay Health Workers and Rev. Fr. Ferdinand Maaño who led the opening prayer for the program.

Services offered by the program are categorized in three: (1) Health Care and Sanitation wherein Usapang Buntis is regularly done and gives free regular pre-natal check-ups, dental check-up and laboratory tests such as CBC, urinalysis, VDRL and Hbsag, it also includes giving of proper education with the help of BHW’s on the importance of First One Thousand Days, Safe Motherhood, Breastfeeding, Family Planning, Expanded Immunization Program, Sanitation and Oral care; (2) Food and Nutrition wherein P1K Program thru the Municipal Agricultural office provide packets of vegetable seedlings they can use for home food production and encourage P1K beneficiaries to build their own Home Garden; and (3) Social Care wherein the coordinators of P1K do home visitation to ensure that the beneficiary receives the kind of support they need.

In Congresswoman Ana’s message, she emphasized on addressing malnutrition as this is considered to be the primary cause of different ailments or abnormalities to children. Thus through Q1K and P1K, child-bearing women of the province and the municipality can avail the services these programs provide.

Also, she assured that the provincial government as well as the partylist she leads are ready to give their support anytime the local government of Pagbilao needs it upon intensifying P1K among its beneficiaries. Furthermore, she encouraged the pregnant women who were present in the said activity to attend all the activities of P1K and they should be accompanied by their partners to give them the kind of support they need.

Meanwhile, municipal Mayor Palicpic recognized every barangay captain, BNS, BHW, the Municipal Health Office led by Municipal Health Officer, Dr. Nathaniel Merene and Assistant Municipal Health Officer, Dr. Francis Gerard Daya for their vital contribution to improving the nutrition and giving proper education to the pregnant women of Pagbilao.

The P1K Program, started in June 2017 and formally launched, today that is geared towards the reduction of maternal and infant mortality rates arising from high-risk pregnancy and delivery. Additionally, the program is implemented due to the desire of improving the quality of life of every Pagbilaowin mothers and babies through comprehensive health care programs.

NNC through its program F1K, will also provide financial assistance for the full-implementation of P1K in the municipality. This would serve as one of the sources to suffice the financial requirements upon carrying out the said program. #PagbilaoWINS #SerbisyongPalicpic
