At age 40, Nanay Cecille almost didn’t imagine studying again and getting a college diploma. But with sheer determination to help her family and improve their life, she’d tried her luck to be a Serbisyong Palicpic scholar, qualified and graduated. Just recently, she has flown to another part of the world to begin following her dreams.
Cecilia Ayangco or Nanay Cecille is a resident of Brgy. Bantigue, Pagbilao, Quezon. A loving wife to Richard and a caring mother to Paul Gerald, Patrick and Rica Joy, she’d found a way to help her family by working as a helper in a food delivery business. At the age of 40, she admits that she almost never imagined studying again and finishing a diploma course.
But as with any other Pagbilaoin, Nanay Cecille firmly believes that education can make a lot of difference to an individual’s future life success. She finished high school through the Alternative Learning System (ALS), an education program of the national government by which individuals over age 25 who did not finish high school can enroll and be granted of a diploma.
Nanay Cecille appeared before Pagbilao Mayor Shierre Ann Portes-Palicpic one day, determined to win a scholarship grant from the local government so she could pursue a higher form of learning. Mayor Palicpic saw the thirst in Nanay Cecille’s eyes – thirst for higher education and thirst for a change. Luckily, Nanay Cecille qualified to be a Serbisyong Palicpic Scholar, along with four other women from the ALS program.
With the assistance provided by Mayor Palicpic’s scholarship program, Nanay Cecille and her classmates were enrolled in the Caregiving program of a private institution in Lucena City that run for six months. After such span of time, Nanay Cecille and her classmates successfully finished the said diploma course.
As of now, three of these five Serbisyong Palicpic ALS scholars have already flown to different parts of the world to work and start turning their dreams into reality. One of them is Nanay Cecille who now works as a service crew in a grand restaurant in Saudi Arabia.
Before leaving the country, Nanay Cecille did not forget to pay a visit to Mayor Palicpic, expressing over and over her gratitude towards the opportunity given by the local government through the scholarship grant provided by the good-hearted Mayor.
“Gusto ko pong maging isang magandang halimbawa sa ibang mga nagkakaroon na ng edad na huwag mawalan ng pag-asa at ipagpatuloy ang kanilang mga pangarap,” (I want to be an inspiration to other aging individuals to never lose hope and continue pursuing their dreams) Nanay Cecille said in an interview.
Indeed, she is an inspiration to every individual who never gets tired of holding on to their dreams and striving to improve their lives.
