Adhering to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)’s mandate that each of the country’s 42,036 barangays must conduct a Barangay Assembly Day, Brgy. Daungan in Pagbilao held such, April 23, 2018, while other barangays conducted the same a week before.
Section 397 of Republic Act No. 7160 or the Local Government Code (LGC) requires the conduct of Barangay Assembly Day. This is for barangay officials to discuss with the residents of the respective barangay the various concerns, improvements, activities and projects in their community. The LGC also declares that the Barangay Assembly should be attended by individuals who are citizens of the Philippines, residents of the barangay for six months or so, at least 15 years old, and accordingly listed as members of the barangay assembly.
Pagbilao Mayor Shierre Ann Portes-Palicpic attended the said Barangay Assembly of Brgy. Silangang Malicboy, to personally witness the gathering. Barangay Captain, Renato ‘Rene’ Colico, and its Barangay Kagawad tackled the developments and other significant matters concerning the welfare of its residents.
“Kapit-kamay tungo sa Pagbabago ng Barangay! Makiisa, Makilahok, Makialam!!” is the theme of the Barangay Assembly Day for the first semester of 2018. A memorandum circular issued by the DILG twice a year directs that all barangays should hold a Barangay Assembly every last Saturday of March and second Sunday of October. #SerbisyongPalicpic #PagbilaoWINS
