The chorale group who sang the official Papag at Bilao festival theme song, ‘PagbilaoWIN Ako’ made its way to participate in Koromusikalinangan 2018 – a music conference spearheaded by various choral groups in the country.
Koromusikalinangan came from the idea of Anna Tabita Abeleda-Piquero a former member of Philippine Madrigal Singers and currently the Choir Director of Koro Ilustrado and University of Visayas Chorale to intensify the culture of choral singing in the country.
This year’s venue of the aforementioned musical conference took place at St. Vincent School in Quezon City last May 11-13, 2018 featuring Paul Phoenix, former Tenor of King’s Singers from Manchester, England and founder of Purple Vocals, Leonyl Torres, Stage actor, Mark Anthony Carpio, Choirmaster of Philippine Madrigal Singers, Ed Manguiat of UP Singing Ambassadors and Anna Tabita Abeleda-Piquero of Koro Ilustrado.
Te Deum Chorale, a church choir of St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish was among the five other participating choirs, Boscorale of St. John Bosco, UPLB Chorale Ensemble, Koro Ilustrado and Minstrels of Hope. During the learning and evaluation process, Te Deum Chorale’s young members were chosen to do lead solo parts in the final culminating concert.
Since last year the said chorale group has been participating in Koromusikalinangan wherein they are given a Silver Level II award which was believed to be a difficult level to reach by a choir group who is new to choral singing outside church music.
It ended on the night of May 13 with a culminating concert where more than 200 choristers and choir directors sang their final song, ‘Circle of Life’ altogether as one.
According to Galang, the musical focus of the conference is Madrigal music – an unusual music to the Philippines’ culture and to the listening ears of Filipinos, and Phoenix trained these members of various choral groups and the choir directors were given the chance to perform with him singing Madrigal songs.
Te Deum Chorale this year again came home with much joy and pride with Paul Phoenix’s reminder that every time they are to delve deeper to different aspects of music, they develop themselves to be better.
In Glenda Galang’s words,’In Koromusikalinangan, we don’t just sing… we learn, in music and in our own lives’. #PagbilaoWINS #SerbisyongPalicpic
